Google Business Profile Description: Explain What You Do

3 minute read · Practical marketing guidance

A Google Business Profile description should help someone recognize the business and its main work. If yours could describe almost any company in Las Vegas or Henderson, replace the general praise with a few approved specifics.

This is a writing task for the business-description field. Start with facts your team can confirm, then decide which ones help a customer understand whether the business is relevant to their request.

Choose the facts before writing the paragraph

Ask the person responsible for the service to confirm the business type, representative work and any important boundary. Choose a process detail only when it resolves a likely misunderstanding. An appointment assessment, for example, can explain why an item must be reviewed before work is agreed.

Keep detailed preparation requirements and quote conditions on the relevant website page. Our service-page guide covers that longer explanation. The Profile paragraph should introduce the business without reproducing the entire quote process.

Keep the description within the field’s rules

Google’s Profile editing guidance sets a maximum of 750 characters and says not to include URLs or HTML. It identifies offerings and helpful business details as suitable material. The maximum is a ceiling; you do not need to use every character.

The business representation guidelines require honest, relevant information, prohibit links in descriptions and say the text must not focus on special promotions, prices or sales. That wording concerns the paragraph’s focus; it should not be recast as a blanket ban on every mention of price.

Write an overview that remains useful when a temporary deal ends. Google provides a separate Website field for the business URL. Leave the link there rather than inserting it into this paragraph.

A wholly fictional description, before and after

Desert Hem Studio, its services, appointment policy, discount and both descriptions below are entirely invented. These are writing examples, not a real Profile, client result or approved business offer.

Before:

Henderson’s BEST alterations! Quality you can trust. Save 20% this week. We do it all, so visit our website and book today!

The opening praise does little to identify the work. The discount dominates, and “we do it all” leaves the service boundary unclear. Removing those phrases creates room for the fictional business facts.

After — complete description, 237 characters:

Desert Hem Studio is a clothing alterations business in Henderson. We shorten trousers and adjust the fit of everyday dresses and jackets. Garments are assessed at an appointment before work is agreed. We do not offer bridal alterations.

The rewrite names recognizable work and an important exclusion. Its process sentence explains assessment without promising that every garment will be accepted. The character count includes spaces and punctuation, but excludes the surrounding label and quotation formatting.

This example stays short because those facts answer its main customer question. A different business might need a different detail. Copy the selection approach, then replace every fictional fact with approved information.

Check the finished wording against the business

Read the paragraph aloud to the service owner. Can they confirm every sentence? Would someone requesting excluded work notice the boundary? If a claim cannot be supported, remove or clarify it before the description is submitted. Completing this check does not guarantee Google’s acceptance.
